D, E and F color diamonds are exceptionally rare and are
highly prized and sort after. Often referred to as collection color
diamonds, the D, E and F color diamonds are classified
as colorless diamonds by the Gemological Institute of America's
internationally recognised diamond grading system. Each collection
color loose diamond from Gillett's is independently certified to give you
the added assurance of its exceptional quality.
3. Guaranteed availability
All of the loose diamonds listed are guaranteed to be available in stock. More...
Gillett's Jewellers own all of the loose diamonds listed on this
web site. They are all available in stock on our premises.
Most other diamond web sites do not own nor physically hold the
diamonds that they offer. Some web sites offer diamonds from a central list
of thousands of diamonds that are warehoused overseas. Those diamonds however
are also listed with hundreds of other jewellers around the world. At
other diamond web sites, in addition to possible long delay times, those
diamonds may not actually be available for purchase if the same diamond is
sold by another jeweler first.
4. Independent Certification
All loose diamonds available for sale from Gillett’s Jewellers are
accompanied by an official DCLA or GIA diamond certificate from an
internationally recognised independent diamond laboratory. The GIA and
DCLA independent laboratories are internationally recognised as world
class diamond grading laboratories.
The diamonds have been individually graded and scrutinized by the DCLA or GIA
diamond laboratory in accordance with the highest international GIA diamond
grading standards, using the latest state-of the art grading equipment. More...
The GIA certificates are from the Gemological Institute of
America. The DCLA certificates are from the Diamond Certification Laboratory of
Australia.
The DCLA and GIA Diamond Certificates guarantee the authenticity
of a diamond and rule out the possibility of it being synthetic or an imitation.
The certificates also contain an authoritative assessment
of a diamond's 4Cs - color, clarity, cut and carat. The certificates
description of the diamond includes: a unique ID number, weight, colour grade,
clarity grade, shape, measurements, proportions, proportion grade, finish grade,
fluorescence, hue and other remarks. These quality characteristics determine the
value of the diamond.
All diamonds graded by the DCLA and GIA are checked to
ensure they have not been treated and are of natural origin. Therefore the DCLA
and GIA Certificates assure the owner that the diamond is free of all known
treatments and enhancements. It also confirms the diamond is natural and not a
synthetic diamond.
Certificate security features: To prevent
counterfeiting the DCLA certificate has various security features including
holograms, UV text seal, special paper and embossed foiled crest. All GIA
diamond grading reports contain a hologram, security screen and micro-print
lines as well as other security features that exceed industry guidelines.
Cold laser inscription is included with some loose diamonds. If
laser inscription is included with your diamond, the diamond specifications
shown online will include a reference that the diamond has been laser
inscribed. Cold laser inscription links the diamond to the certificate providing
added confidence. Laser inscription is minute writing, not visible to the naked
eye, on the girdle of the diamond. The safest laser is a cold laser system,
guaranteed not to damage the diamond, and has no effect on the purity of the
diamond.
When you purchase a loose certified diamond from Gillett’s,
you’ll receive the original diamond certificate with the diamond.

the DCLA web site to know more about the DCLA.
What is the GIA?

The GIA is regarded as the world's foremost authority in
gemology. GIA is the creator of the famous 4Cs of diamond value and diamond
grading system. GIA is not affiliated with any retailer, wholesaler, or
manufacturer. This allows you to gain extra peace of mind knowing that
your GIA diamond report represents the impartial opinion of unbiased
professionals. See the GIA web site to know
more about the GIA.
Why is using an independent laboratory important?
-
Why independent?
This assures an unbiased and objective evaluation of
the diamond. Often a conflict of interest may exist if the same person selling
the diamond determines the grade.
-
Why a laboratory?
A good lab will have advanced equipment providing for
a more accurate assessment. Certain characteristics, such as treatments and
enhancements, will only be detected and disclosed by a specialist laboratory.
-
Why are certificates important?
Without a diamond grading report,
unscrupulous dealers are able to sell treated, poorly made and incorrectly
graded diamonds to unsuspecting customers. Diamond certificates from independent
laboratories allow you to confidently compare diamonds with the same qualities
and attributes amongst various jewellery stores.

that their diamonds are conflict free. We are then able to pass that assurance
of conflict free diamonds to you. Diamonds that have been independently
certified also ensures that the diamond is "on the record" and has come through
the right channels. More...
What are conflict diamonds?
In 1998, Global Witness, a non-governmental organisation (NGO),
made the world aware that certain rebel movements in Africa were selling,
amongst other things, illegally obtained diamonds, known as conflict diamonds,
to fund their wars against legitimate and internationally recognised
governments.
Gillett’s has a policy of zero-tolerance towards conflict
diamonds. Measures such as the Kimberley Process, which tracks diamonds from
mine to market, makes it possible for the industry in partnership with the
United Nations, governments, and non-governmental organizations to police
diamond exports to prevent the trade of illegal diamonds.
Today, over 99% of the world's supply of diamonds is from
sources free of conflict as a result of these measures.
Gillett’s Jewellers only purchase diamonds through the most
respected diamond suppliers who adhere to and enforce the standards established
by the Kimberley Process.
Diamonds are mined throughout the world, including major mines
in Australia, Russia, Africa and Canada. Diamonds are a major source of economic
support in African countries, which employs and enables the provision of health
care to thousands. For more information on this issue, see DiamondFacts.org.
